September is National Food Safety Month
Did you know that there are 76 million cases of foodborne illness every year in the United States? In honor of National Food Safety month, MANNA's nutritionists posted four helpful tips on how you can avoid foodborne illnesses when making meals at home. MANNA takes food safety seriously requiring hairnets, gloves and aprons be worn in the kitchen at all times. MANNA driver, Ruth delivers to Irene
Each month, MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance) brings more than 70,000 nutritious, freshly prepared, home-delivered meals to individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS, cancer or other life-threatening illness. MANNA's small professional staff and 1,500 dedicated volunteers prepare and deliver 3 medically appropriate meals a day, 7 days a week - at no charge. MANNA dietitians promote wellness through nutrition education and counseling. Read more
MANNA Get's Fresh with Local Produce
MANNA received its first shipment of local produce this week from Weaver's Orchard (Morgantown, PA) through our new program, Get Fresh at MANNA. Get Fresh at MANNA combines monthly cooking classes with a campaign to educate existing MANNA clients on the benefits of purchasing and using locally grown foods when they no longer need MANNA's meal-delivery services.
