Shut Up & Dance 2012
An exclusive benefit performance for MANNA, presented by dancers of Pennsylvania Ballet
The 20th Anniversary of Shut Up & Dance, which was held at the Forrest Theatre on March 24, 2012, was a huge success, raising nearly $150,000 for MANNA's nurtition and meal program and bringing together more than 1,500 friends of MANNA.
More than 200 guests enjoyed fantastic food, drinks and MANNA signature cocktails before the performance at the pre-party. Steven & Jennifer Korman hosted the pre-performance cocktail reception and reminded everyone why we are truly, neighbors nourishing neighbors.
Dancers of Pennsylvania Ballet, under the inaugural direction of Pennsylvania Ballet soloist, Ian Hussey, designed, choreographed and performed beautiful pieces that created a night of honor, excitment and embodied 20 years of tears and cheers. Acclaimed WXPN morning show host, Micheala Majoun, brought the night to life with her witty remarks and love for MANNA. MANNA is thankful to WPXN and Michaela Majoun for 16 great years of dedicated and fun. Special thanks go out to Allan Schimmel for sponsoring this special night which honored MANNA's seven founding members.
New this year was the opporunity for donors to sponsor an individual dance act in honor of or in memory of someone special. MANNA would like to specially acknowledge the honorees:
- Brian Sander's amazing choreography in the first dance after opening remarks was in honor of Mrs. Bernice Korman, loving mother of MANNA benefactors Steven Korman & Lynne Honickman.
- The dedicated MANNA staff were honored by Charlie & Wendi Chase.
- Elizabeth Goldberg was honored by Tamar & Stephen Olitsky.
- Fredrick Thomas was remembered by Fred Kroon.
- David Hallmann was remembered by Don D'Orazio.
- "A Simple Waltz" was dedicated to the memory of Kent Steffey by Scott Evers & Al Besse.
- The signature act, "Dying Swan" was generously donated by John Alchin in memory of Neale Savage & Tom Cassidy.
