Shut Up & Dance 2012
How did this event get its name?
In 1993, dancers from Pennsylvania Ballet decided that they needed to do something to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. After much discussion, they realized that the best thing they could do was "shut up & dance." They partnered with MANNA to help with its mission to deliver meals to people dealing with this life-threatening illness. Every year since 1993, dancers have choreographed, danced, and produced this one-night only show, and MANNA and Shut Up & Dance have grown together.
What is the show like?
Shut Up & Dance offers a collection of original works choreographed, designed, and performed by The Dancers themselves. These are one-of-a-kind original works mixed in with some updated interpretations of classics or favorites. The performance could feature anything from classical to contemporary ballet, to hip hop, to whatever else The Dancers feel like dancing! Every year is different, making this one exclusive night of performances you don't want to miss! Please note that past performances have included pieces that include adult humor or suggestive content; we recommend discretion with audience members under 13 years of age.
Does anything special happen before the performance?
Why not join other MANNA supporters at the Pre-Party in the Forrest Theater? Enjoy cocktails and hors d'eouvres from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for $100. This is a great way to support MANNA even more while making your evening more fun! Tickets will be available February 13th.
How long is the show?
The show typically runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. Since the performance begins at 8:00 p.m., we usually expect the performance to be finished between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
What is happening after the show?
Join the Dancers after the performance at the After-Party at Solefood Resturant and Lounge, 1200 Market Street, and show off your won dance moves to classic 70s and 80s dance music from DJ Robert Drake (XPN/Sex Dwarf). More information to come!

Each ticket price includes a donation to MANNA's mission of improving health by delivering nourishment.
