Group Highlight - Kids4Change

Kids-4Change is a Philadelphia non-profit organization aimed at empowering kids and young people to become better citizens. Their goal is to expand to a global level and focus on helping underprivileged kids in developing countries.

Kids-4Change was founded in January 2009 by Shaniah St. Catherine, a 5th grade student at Friends Select School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Inspired by President Barack Obama's Spirit of community service and volunteerism, Shaniah believes "It starts with us kids!" by working as a team with other kids locally and around the world to make a difference to help change the world to be a better place.

Shaniah and a group of 10 other kids recently came to the MANNA Kitchen for an afternoon volunteer shift. They are truly leading by example. All of the kids “suited-up” in hairnets, aprons, and gloves and got right to work on the turn-out line along with Chef Keith Lucas to package more than 800 client meals. “These kids are an amazing example of what can get done when we all work together. They were a huge help to the kitchen today,” said Chef Lucas.

Every week 1,500 dedicated volunteers come to the MANNA kitchen to help prepare and package client meals. This enables MANNA to produce over 65,000 nutritious, home-cooked, home-delivered meals each month to individuals and families at nutritional risk due to life-threatening illnesses.
